Del Mar, California is one of the best places to live if you enjoy the beach and upscale living. Translating from Spanish to “of the sea”, Del Mar is a true coastal city and sits along the Pacific Ocean in north county San Diego. The homes in Del Mar range from large estates on the water to modest suburban homes to condos and townhomes. No matter which part of Del Mar you live, you won’t be more than a few minutes from the beach. The most popular outdoor spots among locals include Torrey Pines state beach and Powerhouse Park.

A couple of the Del Mar communities known as Del Mar Heights and Del Mar Highlands are where you’ll find houses on the hills with breathtaking views of the surrounding city. There is a wide variety of entertainment options in Del Mar including the world-famous Del Mar racetrack next to the fairground which gave this community its tagline, “where the surf meets the turf.” Downtown Del Mar also has a lot to offer — there are tons of little shops, boutiques, and restaurants. The dining options in Del Mar are plentiful including the hot-spot restaurants steps from the shore where you’ll have an ocean view. There have been some new developments in Del Mar recently, most notably the One Paseo outdoor shopping center with trendy mid-range stores.
