The area of City Heights consists of several neighborhoods with a diverse mix of culture, creativity, and architecture, including Roland, Gateway, and Oak Park; each with it’s own unique architectural style with lawn spaces and family amenities. Adams Avenue runs centrally through these neighborhoods and serves as the main commercial artery for restaurants, shops, a diverse range of businesses, and community centers for residents to enjoy. City Heights has much ethnic diversity and this melting pot is contributing to the renaissance that is culminating many projects and a rapid revitalization of the area. Sol Price, owner of Price Club wholesale, has donated on behalf of his charity, $40 million to the neighborhood's revitalization projects. Schools are growing to accommodate the increase in families to the area and affordable housing is in the works as well. A Head Start program introduces children to the diversity of languages; the San Diego Community College District has sponsored a Continuing Education facility; new projects include a new library and a SDSU sponsored Community Center.
Re-growth in the area is seeing a rise in school test scores and
students from Hoover High School are increasingly being accepted at
highly accredited colleges and universities. Between 2000 and 2002 over
400 trees were planted in the area. Residents enjoy an Imax theatre and
a new transportation center for alternative-fuel vehicles.
